British Cities

"Hello! We are two 3rd ESO students and we are here to talk about an exciting project about the UK.  During the project, we had to search information about some British cities. First of all, each pair of students was given the name of one city, like Manchester, Cambridge, Bristol, Birmingham... We had to search their history, landmarks, famous people or entertainment.
The result of this project has been an interesting Trivia game about all the cities and a mini-guide with the information from all of them.
Remember, if you want to have information about British cities, take a look at our guide!!!!"

The Machu Pichu

Machu Picchu is one of the most important archaeological and architectural treasures of the Inca Empire in Peru. It is inscribed on the List of World Heritage by UNESCO since 1983.

The sacred city of Machu Picchu is located 130 kilometers northeast of Cusco, on the crest of the mountain Machu Picchu, at 2,200 meters above de the sea level.
The location of the city was a military secret, as the deep cliffs and mountains were the best natural defence.

It was a "llaqta" (Inca city), a settlement built to control the economy of conquered regions. Llaqta was the most beautiful of the Inca empire, and had been built to shelter the most select aristocracy in case of attack. It seems that was used for a time as a "resting place" and the Sapa Inca as "observatory". After the conquest of the empire by the Spaniards, was the lack of strength of the revolt Inka.

All buildings in Machu Picchu follow the classic Inca architecture. Between stone and stone, no head or a knife.

The area built in Machu Picchu is 530 meters long by 200 meters wide and includes at least 172 enclosures. The complex is  divided into two large areas: the agricultural area, consisting of sets of terraces for farming, which lies to the south; And the urban area, which is where the occupants lived and where the main civil and religious activities took place. Both zones are separated by a wall, a moat and a stairway.

Papas Locas, a Recipe from the Canary Islands

Hi!

Last summer, a friend that I know since I was 11 years, came to Barcelona. He is from the Canary Islands, and he stayed in my home for 20 days.
When he came I couldn’t believe that he was here, because that it's almost impossible, but here he was!
We went to the beach lots of times, and we went to see the Camp Nou, because he likes the team. Then we went to the Sagrada Família too, and he visited a lot of places.
He taught us a recipe that it is typical in the Canary Islands (Papas locas).

These are the ingredients: 2 potatoes, sweet ham, cheese, ketchup and mayonnaise, sausages and bacon.
I hope you like it!!

My Holidays in Colombia

Hi bloggers!

My name is Nicolás and in my last summer holidays in summer I travelled to Colombia. I haven’t been there since I was 4 years old I didn’t remember the country. When I landed, my first impression was that the country is so natural. The air is so pure and there are so many trees and other plants, it was a good first impression.
Later the holidays were very funny because I went to Cartago with my mother’s family and later to Medellin with my dad’s family. The two trips were so good, I went to so many places in Colombia.
In Colombia I learnt how to drive a car and a motorcycle,  because in Colombia you can learn but without the license. They were my best holidays.

I also learned to fly a kite and so many things. I discovered their culture and ate some typical meals among other things. It was amazing!!

I Need my Campsite

Hi bloggers! I want to tell you things about my campsite.

My camping site is called Mas Sant Josep. It is located in the costa Brava. It is one of the most luxurious there, and it has many places to be with friends.

My camping is very important for me, because I’ve been staying there since I was 4 years old. In this place, I disconnect myself from everything and I think about my stuff.
I always have fun with my friends and I don’t see my parents during the day so I can do what I want. I have real friends there, who always stay by my side. And as we stay together all the day, our bond is strong.
Unfortunately, we all live in different places so it is hard for us to see each other.I hope we can be friends for a long time, since they have helped me a lot. They’ve always been there for me when I need them.

I WOULD DIE WITHOUT MY CAMPING!

Eiffel Tower

Hi bloggers!
What do you know about the Eiffel Tower? I can help you!
The Eiffel tower is an iron construction of 300 metres. It was created for the  Universal Exposition of Paris in 1889 and it is the most representative symbol of Paris. It was designed by Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier and built by  Gustave Eiffel during 2 years with the help of 250 workers. There are millions of tourists a year and it is on of the most famous landmarks in the world.

At the beginning of the XX century, with the world wars, the authorities found its utility as an antenna to capture the messages that helped the allies. The initial weight of the tower was 7300 tones but with the museums, shops and stores, the weight raised to 10000 tones.  Eiffel first presented his project to the Barcelona City Hall. The responsible of City Hall said that it looked like a strange and expensive construction and they rejected the project. What a pity, don’t you think?

Greenland

People tend to always talk about the same popular countries, but there’s this one beautiful and forgotten one, Greenland, which I am going to talk about.
Greenland is an autonomous country within the Danish Realm, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Though being a part of North America, Greenland has been associated with Europe specifically with Norway and Denmark. Greenland is the world's largest non-continental island and the third largest country in North America.
There are approximately 700 known species of insects in Greenland, which is low compared with other countries. The sea is rich in fish and invertebrates. The few native land mammals in Greenland are the polar bear, arctic fox, reindeer, arctic hare, musk ox, collared lemming, ermine, and arctic wolf.
Greenland has a population of 56,370 people, of whom 88% are Greenlandic Inuit and the 12% are of European descent. Both languages Greenlandic and Danish have been used a lot there, so almost everyone speaks both. Kalaallisut (Greenlandic) is the official language.
Greenland has an Arctic climate with average temperatures that don't exceed 10° C in the warmest summer months. The air quality in Greenland is one of the bests in the world.
In the southern part of the country, however, the temperature can rise to more than 20° C in June, July or August.
Some curiosities about the country are that the whale along with the sale are both the national dish in Greenland because they both have lots of vitamins. Also Greenland’s got the highest suicide rate in the world by population and one of the highest alcohol intake.

Geography in 3rd ESO

“Last Wednesday, the students of 3rd ESO went to the theatre to learn, listen and see a conference about Geography in English. The person in charge was an American boy, Dustin, who is finishing his degree in Barcelona. He explained lots of things about the United States, America, Europe…He is being evaluated and he told us that he wants to be a teacher.
At the beginning we had to draw a world map and label the continents, oceans… It was a curious experience because it’s not easy to do this without looking at an atlas. He showed lots of maps, and we realised that, Africa is much bigger than what we can usually see in the maps.
At the end, we, the students, made him a lot of questions about geography, his life or the American traditions.
Finally, Ellis and Tim (our conversation assistant) said the same sentences in American and British English so we could see the differences between both accents.
I think we have learnt a lot of things about Geography and English.”
