New York, New York!!!!

Have you ever been in New York? Well, here you can find information about the most important attractions of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. To do this project we were divided in groups and we searched information about these places. Each group has searched the characteristics of that place, the history, and the ways to get there. Besides, we have also searched the movies that were filmed in those places, such as: Avengers, The Wolf of Wall Street, King Kong, Friends…
Our final product was a magazine, that you’ll find in this blog, with all the information. We have also recorded a video explaining the magazine information.

Our Coat of Arms

As we were studying the Medieval Ages, the students of Time Tunnel in 1st ESO have designed in groups their coat of arms.  In that time, few people could read or write, so pictures were very important to communicate ideas.

Knights especially depended of pictures to express their identity. Each of these pictures had a especial meaning and when they were combined, they formed a Coat of Arms.

For this project, they follow these steps:

The Human Rights

The wiki about the Human Rights is finally finished! The students of 4th ESO have been working very hard but the results are stunning and amazing.

Don't miss the opportunity to consult it!!!

Let's cook!!!

In English classes or 3rd ESO we have been learning some new vocabulary related to cooking. Later on, the students have become amazing cheffs and have prepared some recipes.

If you want to learn how to prepare a cake or a pizza, don't waste your time watching a cooking programme, just consult our blog!!! Here you have some examples:

Maths with Nicolle!!

First, the children headed down to the theatre to view a presentation on polygons created by Nicolle.

She explained the different polygons within geometry. She displayed a polygon family tree to show the relationship of each shape.
Next, she discussed triangles. Triangles are classified by their sides-equilateral, isosceles, and scalene- or classified by their angles- acute, obtuse, and right. There was a video in English which helped the students understand the terms better.

Then, she defined quadrilateral and displayed more charts. There was a video in English about quadrilaterals as well.

At the end of class the students formed polygons with a string. Each student would be an angle. For example, five students made a hexagon. Then a student with a different color of string would show the different shapes inside the hexagon by connecting different angles to one another. From a hexagon, the different polygons illustrated were triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. This activity enabled the students to be active and view the different polygons.

MATHS WITH NICOLLE!

Hi, I am Nicolle:

Last month I had the pleasure of working with the ESO students in Sant Gabriel. I am the conversation assistant. I had gone to several classes not just English class. For example, I went to Alfonso's Maths class on Thursdays. I assisted the students in basic algebra and explained the class in English.

I believe it is a great way to incorporate English with other subjects. It enables the student to broaden their vocabulary and understand English better. We discussed integers, whole numbers, fractions, negative and positive numbers. I enjoyed the class because it had refreshed my memory. It has been a long time since I've sit in an algebra class. Overall, there was a lot of positivity within the classroom and the teachers are passionate about their jobs.

British and American English

This week in school Nicolle and I have been showing the students some of the differences between British English and American English. It is important to remember that although there are many differences, you will be understood in both countries whatever words you choose. This is because both British and American English are highly integrated and heavily influence each other; through TV, films, music and literature.

The Human Rights in Ethics

The students of 4th ESO have begun a new project about the Human Rights. They are going to create a wiki about them in Catalan, Spanish and English. We have different groups of experts to organise this project: designers, draftsmen/women, translators, historians...

We are waiting for the results!!!

The Olympic Games in Sports

With second ESO we made individual powerpoint presentations about famous olympic record breakers. We researched some of the most outstanding olympians in historyand learnt many things. These athletes smashed world records, won numerous different medals and scored perfect results too. The Athletes that we studied together were seen as heroes around the world and have gone down in olympic history, they were the best in their field for a time and always demonstrated their greatness by performing at their best on the biggest sporting stage of all: The Olympic Games.

Ethics and songs

These days we have been listening to a lot of music during the English Week!!!! But in "Educació Eticocívica" we also analyse some songs. They talk about injustices: attempts against life, wars, racism, violence... We agree that music can change the world!!!

Here you have some examples of our projects:

Heat in Natural Sciences

In Natural Sciences in the topic of heat, we have studied various concepts, from heat conversion to changes of state through to heat balance.

First we analysed how to convert heat among different measures of temperature, Celsius degrees, Pharenheit and Kelvin. Next we studied how at a molecular level, heat can affect an object to change its state. For example increased heat can make an object go from solid, to liquid, and later to gas.

Heat gives energy to the molecules, so they change their structure, this can be seen as a change from solid to liquid and to gas. Studying heat balance, we have focused on how we can calculate the amount of heat entering and leaving a system.

Science

This term with second ESO we have been studying the topic of Diet and Health.
When looking at diet in science, the main aspects of our work have been focused  on the balanced diet and what it consists in. Within this,  we have studied how each component of a balanced diet helps the body. For example meat, fish and poultry contain high levels of protein helping our body to grow , while wheat, cereals and grains contain high levels of carbohydrates that provide energy for our bodies.

First day, first activities!

·         ENTREPRENEURSHIP 3rd ESO:
The students have to solve some situations using the lateral thinking.
Here you have some examples:
-       A man lives on the tenth floor of a building. Every day he takes the elevator to go down to the ground floor to go to work or to go shopping. When he returns, he takes the elevator to the seventh floor and walks up the stairs to reach his apartment on the tenth floor. He hates walking so why does he do it?
-       How do you put a giraffe into your refrigerator?

Solutions by Roger Rodero and Dani Rodriguez:
-       Because he is a dwarf.
-       Open the refrigerator, put the giraffe into it and close the refrigerator.

·         BIOLOGY AND GEOLOGY 4th ESO:
The students have worked in groups to do the activities of the lesson. Today we’ve tried to speak in English all the time. The students listened to music of the 60's while they were working.

·     MATHS 2nd ESO  :
Today we have been in the ICT room, and we worked with the computers doing two things:
First of all we created a document to make a review of different websites which teach probability.
Then, pupils have been trying to understand the lyric of the song Blowin' in the Wind. Some of them were translating and others just listening to the music.
At the end of the class, everyone has got a simple document of our interesting class.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 1st ESO:
We felt like in the NBA today! We have learnt the basketball rules, so we practise English and sport at the same time! What a new experience!

My English Experience in Natural Science

"Last Friday, 30th January, I made a presentation in Natural Sciences in English for my 2nd A class. It was very funny because now I know how teachers feel. At first, I was very nervous and I said to my teacher “No please, I will do it wrong, please I don’t want to do it”. But finally I was in front of the class and they were listening to me. I was scared when I started talking about the forces and how to calculate them, but while the time was going by I felt much better. My English wasn’t very good but people said to me that they understood it. My teacher congratulated me and I was happy with the result. Now I have less fear, I can talk in English!"

The Amazing Greeks!

This week in Time Tunnel, the students of 1st ESO are studying the Greek culture. First, we analysed the different parts of the theatre and we discovered that women couldn't perform in the plays. It was unfair! Only men and boys could do it!!
Later we learnt that to be a good soldier, boys had to follow a hard and long training but also study music and dancing!
