Conference about mobiles and Apps

This morning the students of 4th ESO have attended a conference about mobile phones and Apps.
Albert Castro, a Computer Engineer from Barcelona who works and lives in Toronto, has explained to them the story of the mobile phones and, also, has introduced the students to the world of computer programming, in order to design applications for mobile phones.

He has emphasised the necessity for students to learn English and have a good education. Don't forget it!!!

The Amazing Greeks!

This week in Time Tunnel, the students of 1st ESO are studying the Greek culture. First, we analysed the different parts of the theatre and we discovered that women couldn't perform in the plays. It was unfair! Only men and boys could do it!!
Later we learnt that to be a good soldier, boys had to follow a hard and long training but also study music and dancing!

What is evolution?

In the first class of the term we began by discussing what we already knew about evolution, next we made a vocabulary table including important vocabulary relevant to the topic. Then we watched an animated video in English describing and explaining the basic theory of evolution. We watched the video in groups and made notes about the most important aspects of the video. The students could use their notes to support them in the final activity. After the video the final activity was an interactive, multiple choice quiz on Kahoot! where each group used a smartphone or tablet to give their answer. To score the most points, you had to answer the question correctly and quicker than the other competitors.

The Numbers in Maths Class

Today in Maths class, the students of 1st ESO have analysed the difference between integers and whole numbers. We agreed that whole numbers must be above 0 but integers can be both positive and negative numbers. We studied a number line of both positive and negative numbers and compared integers with whole numbers.

The students have made groups of 4 pupils around each PC and then they have practised with this link:

http://eu.ixl.com/math/grade-5/understanding-integers

They have completed all the questions and at the same time they have elaborated a vocabulary list with all the words related to the topic:

Subject, Maths, integers, add, substract, whole numbers, positive, negative, plus, minus…..

Finally, we have taken a look to this link where we can find questions about the subject:

"Today's Maths class was to my surprise very funny and entertaining. We used the computers to play on a website, on which there were questions about integer numbers in English. I think it was a more fun way of practising and learn, because nowadays we use technology daily. I really liked it because it was different and to be honest time passed very quickly, at least for me."

Thalia Salgado 1st ESO B

"We did Maths in a website of the integer numbers. Then we created a dictionary with the words that we had learned with the website".

María Albiol 1st ESO A

Charlie Hebdo and the Free Speech

Today in "Educació eticocíviva" the students of 4th ESO have been discussing about terrorism and free speech after the attack to the Charlie Hebdo's journalists. We have been trying to find ways to stop violence and also inventing some slogans to defend the free speech.
Here you have some examples:

Sports Studies

With 2n ESO in Sports Studies, we have been researching the Ancient Olympic Games in Greece, in the Valley of Olympia this term. We have been working in the computer room to help us with our studies.

Following this we have made a timeline using the website Dippity.com. We have been documenting all the Olympics from 1896 to the present day. The Olympics were re-introduced in 1896 thanks to the Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin.

Our timeline shows where each Olympic game has been every four years and different facts that were unique to that Olympics such as new sports introduced or famous events or medal winners from that year.

Moodle is a website we have been using to help us with our studies. It helps to present work in a more beautiful way. Most of our work however has been using PowerPoint.

The Nativity

The Nativity of 4th ESO students, was very successful. The students performed a representation of the story that appears in the bible. When Jesus was born,  Mary and Joseph had been very nervous, but of course there was a perfect ending. Thanks also to the participation and aid from a lot of people that made it possible. We collected more than 500 euros for our end of year trip to Rome. We prepared it with a lot of enthusiasm and the nativity was a great experience for all of us.
