The United Nations Project 2nd ESO Session 1 and 2

In my first week with 2nd ESO students I also presented Greece and the Greek alphabet along some Greek words. The introduction is the same with the 1st ESO, we talked about Greece, the students talked about the things they like in Spain and I answered their questions about me, creating a friendly relationship between us. I also explained them what the SDGs are and what are they trying to achieve. With them we focused in SDG 1 - no poverty, a.k.a. the most important one. After conversating about poverty in general I told them about the situation in Greece with refugees from Syria. I tried to make them feel how these people are feeling by showing them some poor people and their sad stories. The students read their stories and answered some general questions about the pictures I showed them. After that they are going to present to the class who is the person in their picture, some information about them and answer the questions I gave them to the rest of the class. These questions are made in a way so the students understand how the poor people feel like, what they have gone through in the past and how hard is for them to survive. Pretty much that is the second week with the 2nd ESO and we will see what will follow in the final week.

The United Nations Project 1st ESO Session 1 and 2

In my first week with 1st ESO students I presented my country, Greece and I showed them the Greek alphabet along with some common Greek words. After that I answered all their questions about me and about Greece in order to create a friendly climate in the classroom. Then, I asked them to tell me what they like about Spain and in this way I got to learn your country a little bit better. Getting into the main event, I explained to the students what the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are and what is their cause. With 1st ESO we focused on the SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production. Since this SDG is difficult to explain and difficult for them to understand the situation, I pointed with simple words the 3 main issues, which are water, food and energy. After having a good conversation with the students about these issues, we focused on other SDGs and spotted the serious problems that our Earth faces right now such as poverty, environmental destruction and lack of quality education. Having talked about all these things the students felt like they should do something about the situation and we, right now are working on the poster project. It is all about each student to create his poster delivering his message. The second week is closing with a voting by the students themselves and the best posters will be announced to the school.

The United Nations Project 4th ESO. Session 2

In my last week with 4th ESO is pretty much the same as the 3rd ESO. Everyone finished their posters about gender equality and posted them on instagram. Then i talked to them about how easy is, if you get creative, to send your message to the world. We are going as well to play the Halloween game and take photos together. I hope that the students got the general idea of the sustainable development goals and why it is very important and also i hope that they learned some few things about Greece as well.

Anyone who would like to ask me anything, about Greece, about SDGs, about me, about anything, i will be here for two more weeks. Feel free and talk to me:)

The United Nations Project 3rd ESO Session 2

LAZAROS:
In my second and final week with 3rd ESO everyone finished their posters and we voted for the best ones. My goal was to get them familiar with the sustainable development goals and show them that if they have a message to sent to the world, the are many ways to do it. I helped the students to get creative and share their message related to climate action through posters. If the european parlament likes their creations thousands of people are going to see their posters and get their messages, so my point is if you want to say something about anything, get creative and do it. Also the students came up with ways to help our environment in our every day lives, the most popular way was recycling so the school is going to promote recycling to the students. To close, in our final moments together we played a game related to Halloween and also we took pictures all together and had much fun.

The United Nations Project 4th ESO Session 1

LAZAROS:
In the 4th ESO the introduction about Greece and the SDG's is pretty much the same. Together we focused in SDG number 5 - Gender equality. Firstly, i had them to think about problems in their everyday life connected to gender equality and we talked about them. Then I explained some of the most serious problems about gender equality, using photos and videos, to the students and after that we talked about ways to fix and overcome them, one of them being the education. After that i explained to them using a game why the society wants to separate the boys and the girls from a young age using as a base line their toys and their clothes colours. Then, with everybody understood that they can play with whatever they want and wear whatever clothes they want we joined the same project on Instagram that I explained before. Closing the students are going to present their poster to the class and again we are going to vote for the best ones.

The United Nations 3rd ESO Sessió 1

LAZAROS:
In 3rd ESO after letting the students know some things about Greece i introduced them to the plan to save the world and end poverty, shared by the United Nations. This plan is made of 17 different sustainable development goals (SDGs). Together we focused on SDG number 13 - Climate action. After letting everybody know how the greenhouse effect appeared and what it does to our planet i showed them some of the most serious problems in our society and we talked about them. Then i presented to them some, using photos and videos, easy things anyone can do to help at least a little bit our environment, things like closing the tap while washing hands or closing the lights when beeing on different room. Closing, right now we are working on a project created by the Spanish representatives in the Europian Parliament based on Instagram. They have to get creative and draw a poster, delivering a message about Climate action, and post it on their Instagram account tagging @parlamentoeuropeo and using #changethestory. The 30 best posters will be announced in Brussels. After that every student is going to present his poster to the class and all together are going to vote for the best ones.

The United Nations Project: Presentation

My name is Lazaros, I am 19 years old and I come from Greece. Studying business in the University of Macedonia an opportunity appeared so I came to Barcelona as a volunteer to share my thoughts about sustainable development with young people. Using activities and projects I am trying to make students aware about the problems our earth faces at this moment and motivate them to do something about it. The most important thing for me is for the students to understand how serious this is and how it will affect people in such a sort time period. For me, if they understand this they will feel like the need to do something, because this is what happened to me. In this case i will try to get them familiar with organisations like AIESEC who encourage and guide people who want to be part of the campaign designed to change this planet once and for all.

In my first 2 weeks here i met 3rd and 4th ESO's students.
