MUSEUMS

We know that not everyone likes to visit museums, and that if you're not interested in the topic, it can be really boring. For that reason, during the last weeks in English classes we've found a solution: we've created our own museums. What does it mean?  In pairs, we have searched and thought about a topic we like or we're interested in, and, agreeing, we've choosen one for our own new museum. To advertise these hypothetical museums, we've designed really original digital or physical leaflets. In these, we exposed the different exhibitions that could be found, the schedules, prices, address and ways of contacting.  But, as good entrepreneurs, we wanted to go further: we made a radio ad advertising ourselves. Lastly, we exposed our leaflets to the rest of the class, and at the same time we evaluated each other.

Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo was born on 6th July 1907 in Coyoacán, Mexico City, Mexico and she died on 13th July 1954 where she was born. She died at the age of 47 for a pulmonary embolism that is a blockage of the artery in the lungs.
She was the third daughter of the family, she had a lot of problems when she was a child because when she was six, she got poliomyelitis and that provoked that she was in bed during nine months.
She was one of the first girl that started to go to the School of Mexico and there she was studying medicine but she won't be dedicated to this.
On 17th September 1925, she suffered a big accident when she was travelling in a bus that was rolled by a trolley car. Her column was fractured for three parts and more parts of her body were destroyed for example her right leg was fractured for eleven parts. This accident forced Frida to have more or less thirty-two operations in all her life.
Before the accident, in 1925, she was the apprentice of a friend of her father who was a painter but she didn't like painting. But after this tragic event, she couldn't move to have a faster recovery and she started to draw frequently and with her works she showed the things that happened in her life and her feelings.
In 1928 Frida started to stay with Diego Rivera and they had a good relationship. One day she showed her works to him and he cheered her up to continue drawing. On the 21th August 1929 they got married but they had a lot of problems because they stayed with another people and with them. She discovered that she was bisexual, and finally in 1939 they got divorced.
In 1930, she got pregnant but with her sickness and the bad position of the fetus the doctors decided to interrupt the pregnancy and it was very hard for her to accept she will never have any children.
Her works are in a lot of expositions and people say that her expositions were surrealists but truly they represent her life.
In 1953 in the City of Mexico it was organized an exposition but the doctors didn't recommend Frida to go because her health was very bad in that time. Despite this, she went with an ambulance and she was all the time in a hospital bed. She was in the middle of the exposition and there she explained jokes, sang and drunk all the afternoon, it was successful.
She died in Coyoacán on the 13th July of 1954. Nobody did an autopsy and her ashes are conserved in the Frida Kahlo Museum.

4th ESO Project about London Attractions

Last week we did a project about the most important attractions in London. We divided into 6 groups of 4-5 people, and each group was assigned an important place of this city.
Our teacher mentioned us that this project was to know more about London because this is the place where we will go for the end of the course trip.
The project was about a magazine that you had to create and a video which explained the history about the place, the timetable, the prices and how we can arrive there.
Our group talked about Covent Garden that is a market where you can find shops, restaurants and it’s a nice place to walk and have a good time. Other groups explained that also you can find others interesting places or monuments to visit and learn a lot, for example the London Eye, Big Ben, The British Museum, Trafalgar Square…

We think that was a good and fun project to learn more and we didn’t have any problem because we distribute all the tasks very well.
This week you can see you our magazines, and next one you will enjoy the videos!!!

Theatre in the School. Behind the Scene

Last Tuesday 31st January, our class went to the theatre to watch how an actress and an actor can perform a real story alone. The participation during the play was volunteer. It was very interactive, so, I have participated and it has been a more exciting experience than staying sitting with the audience. The backstage was so cool! I was with Núria A. and Ángel P. of 4th ESO and Thalía S. and Roc F. of 3rd ESO. We were laughing all the time. We have dressed up like actors of the story for a short time, wearing a pink wig, red glasses, black gloves, a long jacket...
I hope next time, some other students were volunteers because it’s so interesting and funny to act.

On Tuesday, we watched an excellent play in English at our school.  The most exciting has been to share a short time with the actors. We have had fun a lot!  At the beginning I was shy and suddenly  I was acting with my partners of 1st and 2nd ESO, Natán T., Lucía C. and Toni S.
I recommend to participate next time!! I won’t forget this experience!!!

The Nativity

The Nativity of 4th ESO students, was very successful. The students performed a representation of the story that appears in the bible. When Jesus was born,  Mary and Joseph had been very nervous, but of course there was a perfect ending. Thanks also to the participation and aid from a lot of people that made it possible. We collected more than 500 euros for our end of year trip to Rome. We prepared it with a lot of enthusiasm and the nativity was a great experience for all of us.
