Artemis Fowl, character of his saga with the same name, written by Eion
Colfer.
Eoin Colfer was born and raised in Wexford, Ireland. As a child he
attended Wexford Christian Brothers School. His father, Billy, was a primary
school teacher as well as an artist and historian. His mother, Noreen, was a theatre
teacher. From primary school he showed great passion for writing and reading
books on Vikings inspired by his history lessons. While he was in sixth grade
of Primary school, he wrote his first work: a play about Vikings in which all
the characters died, except him.
After leaving school, he earned his degree from Dublin University and
qualified for elementary school, returning to work in Wexford. He married in
1991 and together with his wife, Jackie, spent four years working in Saudi
Arabia, Tunisia and Italy.
His first book Benny and Omar, based on his experiences in Tunisia, was
published in 1998. And then translated into several languages. In 2001, the
first book of the series Artemis Fowl was published, allowing him to abandon
his work as a teacher and dedicate full time to writing. Eoin Colfer currently
lives in Ireland with his wife and two children.
